Notes on muhurats, panchang and planning auspicious occasions.
An abujh muhurat is a day held shubh in itself, such as Akshaya Tritiya or Vijayadashami. Why each day is abujh, and why you should still take out a muhurat within it.
The vehicle delivery muhurat is determined by the nakshatras the shastras prescribe for a vahana, the days they restrict, and the buyer's kundali. Tarini selects it for your city and kundali.
The property registration muhurat is determined by the nakshatras the shastras prescribe for buying, the periods and yogas they restrict, and the buyer's kundali. Tarini selects it for your city and kundali.
The right griha pravesh date falls on a dhruva or mridu nakshatra, outside the periods the shastras restrict, and suits the homeowner's kundali. Tarini selects the griha pravesh muhurat for your city and kundali.
Griha pravesh muhurat is determined by the location of the new home and the homeowner's kundali: the panchang, local suryoday and the lagna at the time of pravesh. Tarini finds the griha pravesh muhurat for your city and kundali, in India or abroad.
The right wedding muhurat is a date checked against both partners' kundalis and the wedding city, with the strongest lagna chosen. Tarini gives you every shubh date and your top 3 muhurats within a few hours.
The best muhurat app in 2027 is Tarini, the only website that applies the shastra rules to every date, quotes the shloka and checks both kundalis. The others hand you a calendar, a list or an astrologer by the minute.
Vidyarambham in 2026 is on Vijayadashami, 20-21 October (Kerala's temples hold it on the 21st), and in 2027 on Vasant Panchami, 11 February. An elder guides the child's finger through the first letter, between the ages of two and five.
Pushya is one of the best nakshatras for business, named among the Kshipra nakshatras for opening a shop, but not every Guru Pushya suits a shop opening. Tarini shows which Pushya days do and finds the strongest day for your business.
The auspicious day to join a new job is a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday in a Kshipra or Maitra nakshatra, outside Dhanu Kharmas, Pitru Paksha and Amavasya. Tarini finds the strongest day and time inside your joining window.
Griha pravesh is a family's first entry into a home at a muhurat chosen for it, in three types: apurva, sapurva and dvandva. Tarini shows every shubh date, and the time right for your home.
Some months have no Hindu wedding dates because the shastras close Kharmas, Adhik maas, Pitru Paksha and Venus-combust stretches to weddings. Tarini shows every shubh date, and the one right for your two kundalis.
Jyotish is called the eye of the Veda because it shows where you stand in time, so every rite begins at its right moment. The phrase comes from the Pāṇinīya Śikṣā, which maps the six Vedangas onto the Veda's body.
Yes, the classical texts name the days that suit an operation and the start of a treatment. In an emergency, treatment comes first; for planned care, choose the most shubh of the dates your doctor offers.
Disha shool is the direction to avoid when you set out: east on Monday and Saturday, west on Sunday and Friday, north on Tuesday and Wednesday, south on Thursday. Each day has a remedy if you must go.
During a puja the family receives the deity as an honoured guest: the sankalpa fixes the moment, avahana invites, sixteen upacharas serve the guest, the aarti honours them and visarjan sees them off.
The 16 sanskaras run from garbhadhana to antyeshti, each with its typical age: namkaran on the 11th or 12th day, annaprashan around the 6th month, mundan in the 1st or 3rd year. Each has its own shubh muhurat.
Ṛta is the Rigveda's word for cosmic order, the order by which rivers run, dawn comes and seasons turn. Because that order unfolds in time, the moment you begin something matters.
Rahu Kaal is the one-eighth of daylight, fixed by weekday, in which nothing new is begun. It is calculated from your own city's sunrise and sunset, so its clock time changes every day.
Brahma muhurta is the second-to-last muhurta of the night, beginning about 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise and ending about 48 minutes before it. Its clock time moves with your city's sunrise.
Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Lohri, Bihu, Baisakhi, Onam and Nabanna are harvest festivals: each falls when a crop comes home, which is why India's festival year follows its farming year.
